Dear Colleagues:

Happy New Year! I trust that you and your families enjoyed the Christmas Season and are looking forward to an exciting new year filled with many possibilities.
Our January meeting will be on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 9:30 am at Keyboard Connection. This is a District Meeting led by District President Dr. Erin Bennett, otherwise known as “new Mom.”
The JMTA Board members should be prepared to vote regarding the bylaws revision to the JMTA Constitution. At least 8 board members are needed to vote. The local bylaws must coincide with the Florida State bylaws, which were changed at the October State Conference. The Provisional designation is discontinued.
We plan to change the title “Historian” to “Archivist” since our archived materials are kept by Amy Turon at the State level. There is a Manual of Procedures for this new position.
Thank you for your help and support in 2018. I look forward to all of us working together to make 2019 the best year ever for JMTA.

Blessings,

Dr. Sandra Roberts

President, JMTA

Greetings to my fellow music teachers,

The FSMTA Conference in Coral Gables was great! I shared some of the high points at the October general meeting. Kamila Shahtakhtinski was our representative in the Teachers’ Recital. She did a FANTASTIC job and ended with a grand flourish! Thank you, Kamila. I roomed with Paulette Kilts and learned so much from her. She is a wealth of information! Mary Lou Krosnick’s student Amy Lao was the State Concerto Winner. Amy (and Mary Lou) gave an impressive performance in the Student Winners Recital. I feel privileged to have been able to attend the Conference.

Next year’s State Conference will be in Gainesville, right in our own backyard. I encourage ALL of you to attend and help. Karen Schaefer from Gainesville sent a list of duties and volunteers. She still needs monitors for each session to hand out programs and count the number of attendees; registration desk workers who will stay at the desk at least 2 hours; and other jobs as Karen notifies us. Denise Homsley is the conference registrar. Thank you, Denise.
We invite you to attend our next general meeting at Keyboard Connection on Wednesday, November 7th at 9:15 (meet and greet) with the meeting at 9:30. NOTE the change in date from our usual second Wednesday! Our own Jack Melvin, owner of Keyboard Connection, will present the program. Jack’s presentations are always informative and entertaining. See Anita Renfroe’s post for the program description. You want to be there!

Our numbers are growing! Congratulations to Erin Bennett on the birth of her son and to Kama Rasmussen-Li on the birth of her daughter. We wish both happy families well.

We will be reviewing the changes to our Constitution and Bylaws (to conform to the FSMTA changes) so that we can vote on these at a later meeting. Many thanks to Paulette Kilts for providing a concise account of the proposed changes.

The fees for this year’s general meeting presenters are covered. The fees for next year will be determined before a new budget is passed.

Since this is our last meeting before Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year, I wish you all a Blessed Holiday Season! I am thankful to be part of an organization that has such fine members! Thank you for all that you do for JMTA.

Blessings,

Dr. Sandra Roberts

President, JMTA

Greetings Everyone:

Many thanks to Anita Renfroe for the September program. Our 2018-2019 school year is off to a great start! We had a delightful time munching on goodies and listening to holiday music. October’s program will continue the presentation of holiday (any holiday) music gems. Please attend and share your favorite holiday selection(s). Check Anita’s post in the High Notes for future programs.

Thanks to Maureen Rhodes for volunteering to be our new Ethics Chairperson; also to Martha McKie for filling the Secretary’s position. We appreciate these ladies’ willingness to help JMTA. We are still in need of a Historian. The job is not time consuming. Would anyone volunteer to fill this spot? Please let me know ASAP.

By the time of the October meeting, I will be home from the FSMTA Conference in Coral Gables. I will have a report about the business meeting and the workshops. We are so pleased that our own Kamila Shahtakhtinski will be one of the featured performers. I look forward to this time of continuing education and fellowship. I am driving alone to Coral Gables. Please keep me in your prayers for a safe journey.

Our appreciation goes to Jack Melvin for his hosting our JMTA meetings.

See you on October 10th!

Blessings,

Sandra Roberts
