This organization is affiliated with the Florida State Music Teachers Assocation and the Music Teachers National Association. The objective of this organization is to advance the interest of music and musicians in the Northeast Florida area. JMTA was founded in 1918 and has been an active organization in this area since that time.

Historic news! At the recent FSMTA conference, Florida members voted to delete the Provisional membership category requirement. Florida was the only state remaining to have this requirement. All Provisional members were automatically changed to Active status. This means any music teacher may join FSMTA; a degree is not required. We are excited to be more inclusive of all music teachers! There is so much that JMTA, FSMTA, and MTNA has to offer to help all of us, degreed or not, advance in our abilities to be more effective teachers. Encourage any music teachers you know to join and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge we can offer one another.     Dr. Dumlavwalla is a Professor of Piano and Coordinator of the Pedagogy Program at FSU.
    JMTA is in for a treat! Dr. Diana Dumlavwalla will present a session entitled Online Music Lessons. This session will identify successful traits
shared by online teachers and ascertain how they successfully nurture
artistic musicians. Effective strategies will be outlined to help ensure
online lessons are engaging and student centered. Ideas for getting
started will be discussed. The workshop will also outline the advantages
and disadvantages of this new learning environment. Video examples will be
included in this presentation.
